Stefan Pflug: Day 5: Both feet on the ground

I started day 5 by declining to clean (225 lbs) and squat (330 lbs) and headed directly to the Athletic training room for an ice bath. 15 minutes later I put on my collegiate appparel and went out into the sun and Memorial Field, our stadium.

I had a good strech and went of to eat lunch with a couple of the freshmen Dbs. The cantina is simply awesome – All you can eat and a huge variety of different foods like sandwiches, salad, pizza, burgers, pasta, rice, tofu... I could go on. I have started to bring my playbook with me everywhere and pop-quizen myself to help me get the plays down. I decided that this day would be different for me – that I would do better than yesterday. I need to be able to focus on playing football instead of alignment, cadence and routes.

Just prior to training at 2:30 pm, I found myself, yet again, in the athletic training room with my legs in an ice bucket. I hit the field yearly and caught 20-30 balls with a senior quarterback. I decided that my fractured finger would not heard and that I would catch everything – and I did. I don't know if my mindset has been off on the other days, but I feel ready to play football now. Even if I don't make the team, I don't want to have any regrets after this camp. Our WR coach gathered the receivers prior to full team and told us, that if we wanted to show him something now was the time. I caught a hard ball over the middle and blocked a freshman safety down the field. I know, that if I want even the slightest chance on the team I have to perform every single day.

Another ice bath in the Whirlpool and I was off to team meetings. We installed all the motions and hand signals and I am confused again. We know have plays like ”Trade Flip Trip Right F Shallow”, which consists of 5 different hand signals – I am trying real hard to get it down. Trust me – it's hard.

I have spend the entire night with my playbook and my Gatorade 0 1,5 Liter – 2,5 dollars!! :)

We have a scrimmage against a local University on Saturday. I am hoping to see the field and make the most of it. I'll let you know how that goes,

On another note, I can tell you guys, that the coaching staff has named me 'Steve'. I guess they don't care much for Stefan :) Haha...
